Good afternoon! Today we start our Spring Kickball 2025 season. Every game day we will send a short word of hope and encouragement along with the days schedule.

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.

This is the opening words of a letter the Apostle John wrote to friends in the 1st century. He starts by emphasizing that the Jesus he is going to talk about was real–someone he knew. As Easter approaches it is a reminder that it is the most outlandish story ever told—that Jesus was killed, buried in a guarded tomb, and then raised himself from the dead three days later.

This is our hope of Christianity. All of our other claims about the teachings and behaviors of Jesus are rooted in his ability to raise himself from the dead. It is a life-changing story—even 2000 years later. And when John wrote to his friends he wanted them to know that he was a personal witness of the events surrounding Jesus’ life.

He followed that opening statement with this hope we build on:

The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.”

See you tonight!
